Here's a special compilation for fans of one of the best sci-fi films of the 50's, and one of Universal's best sci-fi films of that era. Tracks are compiled from both the recordings conducted by Masatoshi Mitsumoto, as well as one track conducted by Henry Mancini (who contributed music to the film), and an additional track by Dick Jacobs and his Orchestra (presented twice: with the narration and effects, and without)...the Mancini and Jacobs albums can be found in their entirety elsewhere on this blog. CD rips at 320k. Link is in the comment area.

THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (1943) - Lux Radio Theatre broadcast
Radio adaption of the hit Universal remake of the Lon Chaney classic. Hosted by Cecil B. DeMille, but does not star Claude Rains (who reportedly didn't care much for the medium of radio), but does star Basil Rathbone, and two of the film's stars: Susanna Foster and Nelson Eddy. My own CD rip at 128k (had to keep the filesize down for faster uploading/downloading, but considering the age of the material it still sounds great). Link is in the comment area.
THE WORDS & THE MUSIC OF FRANKENSTEIN (1999)
Lovingly compiled by Rob Zombie, who is obviously a fan of the classic Universal horrors, this great compilation contains music and dialogue excerpts from Universal's first three FRANKENSTEIN films: Frankenstein (1931), Bride of Frankenstein (1935), and Son of Frankenstein (1939). My own CD rip at 128k (had to keep the filesize down for faster uploading/downloading, but considering the age of the material, it still sounds great). Link is in the comment area.
CHILLER (1989) - Erich Kunzel/Cincinnati Pops
Including this one not only because of a couple of Universal-related music selections (Psycho, and Alfred Hitchcock Presents), but mainly because of the inclusion of a short suite of music from The Bride of Frankenstein (Track 11: 1. Prelude/2. Minuet/3. Pastorale & March). 320k CD rip. Link is in the comment area.Tracks:

FRANKENSTEIN (1931 - Guiseppe Becce & Bernhard Kaun) and BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN (1935 - Franz Waxman)
Well, I had debated whether I should post this one.....frankly, most of these Soundtrack Factory releases are regarded as being less-than-substantial quality taken directly from the movies themselves.....but even so (and I plan on posting "The Words & Music of Frankenstein" which is much, much better), this is a "legit" bootleg and does exist, so for those of you who want this, here it is. Link is in the comment area.Tracks:

FRANKENSTEIN - The complete unedited 1932 radio serial

Not specifically an adaption of the 1931 Universal classic, but presented on radio in 13 parts one year later. The album cover images seen here are from the 1960's LP release, which used photos of Boris Karloff and Colin Clive from the Universal film. That particular LP condensed the episodes down into a two-hour presentation by removing the credits and weekly recaps of the episodes. The entire 3-hours, completely unedited 13-part serial can be found here at the wonderful RadioLovers site (unfortunately only at 32kbps, but it works for the age of the material): http://www.radiolovers.com/pages/frankenstein.htmI remebered that I happened to have this serial as a bonus feature on a budget DVD and can possibly try to eventually do my own rip at a higher bitrate sometime in the future.
FRANKENSTEIN: THE TRUE STORY (1973) - Gil Melle
ABBOTT & COSTELLO MEET FRANKENSTEIN (1948) - The Complete Soundtrack
THE BLACK CAT (1934) - Complete Music Score (with dialogue & sound effects)
The music is almost non-stop throughout this, my favorite Universal horror classic (and probably the strangest one the studio ever did back then), so this DVD rip is practically the entire soundtrack of the movie, but does contain all of the music heard in the film. Originally created and posted by the now-gone Soundtrack Rarities blog. Link is in the comments area.
BILLY & MANDY'S BIG BOOGEY ADVENTURE (2007)
Okay, not particularly Universal-related musically, but watch the movie next time Cartoon Network shows it....in the trial scene in the underworld, several caricatures of various Universal monsters can be seen, including The Bride of Frankenstein, etc. Show creator Maxwell Atoms is obviously a fan of classic horror films. 320K DVD/CD rip originally created and posted by the now-gone Soundtrack Rarities blog, this "mini-soundtrack" combines eight tracks ripped directly from the DVD, plus a collection of additional disco tunes with "Boogie" in the title.
